Jeremy N. Curmon, born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina in
April of 1990 is the only child of Jacquelyn N. Curmon. From a
very early age music has been a major influence in is life. Since
early elementary school Jeremy was heavily involved with his
church's youth choir. At the age of ten Jeremy began taking
weekly piano lessons, studying primarliy the Baroque and Romantic
periods of music. In only a year's time, Jeremy was performing for
recitals and competitions held at both Meredith University and
Peace College. Jeremy continued to study piano through his senior
year in high school, performing for numerous state wide
competitons, church choirs and performed a Christmas Medley on
piano for his high school's winter concert. Jeremy was awarded
three consecutive grades of "Superior", in the annual YAA
(Young Artist Auditions) held in Raleigh, NC and was awarded a
check and an invitation to the YAA Honors Piano Recital for his
performance of Felix Mendelssohn's Song Without
Words, Venetian Boat Song No. 1, Opus 19 No. 6.
Playing the piano only hightented Jeremy's urge to play music. In the sixth grade Jeremy picked up the trumpet and joined the school's concert band. He played the trumpet through the duration of middle school while still studying piano. At the end of Jeremy's freshman year in high school, a cd that was bought for .50 cents at a yard sale peaked his interest and made him make a decision that would follow him for life. It was after listening to his new cd of Kirk Whalum playing saxophone covers to some of his favorite songs that he realized he had a strong desire to learn that instrument. Within a two month time frame, Jeremy rented a saxophone, and practiced daily until the first day of school started and band re-begun for the season. Shocking the band director, the class, and himself, Jeremy showed up to class with a sax instead of a trumpet and a week of tryouts was awarded first chair alto sax. During his time at Leesville Road High School, Jeremy played alto, tenor and barritone saxophone for the school's concert band.
Jeremy continued his efforts in music, and began studying the
saxophone as his primary instrument. In 2008, Jeremy was given the
chance to open playing the Star Spangled Banner at the MEAC (MID
EASTERN ATLANTIC CONFERENCE) Basketball Tournament games. As
the year progressed Jeremy continued his efforts in music.
Performing for the annual King's Day Concert in Raleigh, NC &
numerous wedding ceremonies including his mother's in August 2008,
Jeremy realized he not only had a talent for music but that it was
a passion. While in college, Jeremy played for multiple open
mic and talent nights on campus and around the cities of Greensboro
and Winston-Salem and played the barritone saxophone and tenor
saxophone for 2 years in A&T's spring Concert Band. In the fall
of 2012, Jeremy was awarded a generous monetary scholarship on the
campus of North Carolina A&T for his winning performance
on Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna Come on Tenor Sax. On February
1st, 2013, Jeremy was given the opportunity to peform his saxophone
in front of the A&T Four and join them in their annual Round
Table Discussion. But just like the piano, learning the
saxophone only peacked his interest to learn more instruments. In
2010 Jeremy decided to teach himself the acoustic guitar. It was
not long after that when Jeremy decided to further pursue his music
and teach himself the bass guitar. Shortly after acquiring a
bass guitar, Jeremy began playing for Mebane First Baptist, in
Mebane, NC where he still plays every Sunday.
On March 23rd, 2013, Jeremy was intiated into the Iota Beta Chapter
of Phi Mu Alpha, Sinfonia Fraternity of America Incorporated.
Jeremy continues to peform at various venues as a solo artist,
along side his fraternity brothers, and as a dedicated member
of Superior Dreams.
